Saint Mary's Square

Saint Mary's Square
So we're here in St. Mary's Square, and over to the side there we can see this huge stainless steel, rather space-age looking statue. That's the Chinese democratic leader, Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Dr. Sen was rather important in the overthrow of the ruling dynasty in China back in 1912. So why do we find a statue of Dr. Sen right here in St. Mary's Square? Well, it turns out that before the revolution in China in 1912, he had to spend most of his time in exile and spent a lot of those years here in San Francisco. He particularly enjoyed coming to St. Mary's Square to read his books.
