Tudor City

Tudor City
This little area we're in here is called Tudor City. It was built in the 1920s and 30s to combat the flight of middle class families out of New York City into the suburbs. The idea with Tudor City was to create a kind of suburb within New York City to bring those families back again. These lovely little gardens and surrounding buildings here were constructed on top of raised platforms, the idea being to lift Tudor City out of the grime and noise of the rest of New York. And this little bridge we're on here that connects to those raised areas also gives us a fantastic view right down 42nd Street. The buildings take their architectural cues from the Tudor style that was very popular in the American suburbs back then. And of course, it’s that architectural style that gave the project its name, Tudor City.
