1 The United Nations

The United Nations

The United Nations
Important matters concerning the fate of the whole world are discussed here in the United Nations headquarters, but this land used to house an old slaughterhouse. When they were deciding where to build the UN headquarters, there were several other cities in contention like San Francisco, for example. And then John D. Rockefeller, of the Rockefeller building, he decided to spend $8 million to buy the land here and that sealed the deal for New York City. If you do visit the United Nations and pass through the gates there, you're actually technically leaving the United States of America, because today this is United Nations territory.
