One World Trade Center

One World Trade Center
Towering high above us here is the One World Trade Center building, also known as the Freedom Tower. It was built in 2013 to replace the original One World Trade Center building. That, of course, was better known as the North Tower of the Twin Towers, both of which were destroyed in the September 11th attacks. The One World Trade Center is currently the tallest building in the western hemisphere, the sixth tallest building in the world, and its height was carefully determined to symbolize two things. Firstly, if you take the height of the main building itself up to the roof level but not including the spire, that's 1368 feet, exactly the same height as the original Twin Towers were. And if you take the height of the whole building, spire included, that's 1776 feet, a reference to the year 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was first signed.
