In 1970, the slightly weird house behind me used to look the same as all the rest in the row here. But working away in the basement were some of the Weathermen. This was a student activist group that were campaigning against the Vietnam War, and they got the name the Weathermen from a line in a Bob Dylan song. You don't need the Weathermen to know which way the wind blows. Well, the wind weren’t blowing in the right direction for them because they were creating a dynamite bomb in the basement. But they weren't very experienced, and they managed to blow up all the house and themselves along with it. And they even blew a hole into the neighbor's house, which at the time was Dustin Hoffman's house. When they came to rebuild the building, the architect didn't want to create a new version of an old style. Instead, he wanted to create something deliberately contemporary. And that's what we got.
