Broadway
Back in the early 1900s, Broadway here was the life and soul of the city. With 12 theaters popping up between 1911 and 1930 alone. Including the Tower and the Orpheum behind us here. All those theaters would show a variety of performances, live shows, but also movie screenings. These became increasingly popular during the Great Depression of the '20's and '30's as a kind of escape from reality. Then, with the increasing popularity of the car, a lot of people started moving out of the downtown into the suburbs. Have their own little house and garden. Downtown fell into a slow decline. Today sadly, all those 12 theaters are closed. At least we still have their beautiful facades as a reminder of bygone era.
